Reus hazelnuts with muscatel

Two dessert ingredients: a drink with a decidedly Catalan DNA and hazelnuts, with their own protected designation of origin - Reus.

What is muscatel?

Muscatel is a wine with a very long history behind it, one that has evolved over the years to become the aromatic, semi-sweet wine that we know today. To say that this is a Catalan product is no exaggeration, bearing in mind the many hectares of land in Catalonia on which the muscat grape needed to make it is grown (DO Catalunya, DO Priorat, DO Empordà, etc.).

Moreover, the muscat grape is rich in minerals, helps to prevent osteoporosis as it strengthens the bones, and can help to reduce cholesterol levels.

What are Reus hazelnuts?

In 2004 Reus hazelnuts were granted protected designation of origin (DOP) status, in recognition of the care that is taken at all stages in the cultivation, harvesting and production of this product.

In the middle of the hazelnut harvest, we would like to celebrate the origin, nutritional properties (hazelnuts contain a wealth of vitamins and minerals) and health benefits of these nuts, which alleviate stress, reduce cholesterol, help to maintain a healthy digestive system and to prevent cardiovascular problems, and more.

Hazelnuts
Hazelnuts store well kept in a hermetically sealed container in the fridge. They’re good to have close to hand to be chopped and used in stews, rice dishes, or fideus a la cassola (a typical pasta dish), and can also be added to all sorts of bread, biscuits and cakes. Hazelnuts are also really good in salads, for making a stuffing for chicken or other poultry, as a topping for a pudding or an ice cream, or for adding to your favourite yoghurt, kefir or mató.
