Registration now open for the programme that transforms school meals in Barcelona
Schools that are interested in taking part can get more information by attending the online information session on 13 May from 10.00 am to 11.00 am, where the objectives, participation requirements and resources offered by the Menjadors més sans i sostenibles (MEMSS) programme will be presented.

From 28 April to 20 May, schools in the city can apply to take part in the programme Menjadors Escolars Més Sans i Sostenibles (MEMSS) (Healthier and more sustainable school dinners) for the 2025-2026 school year. This initiative, led by Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Public Health Agency with the support of the Barcelona Education Consortium, aims to promote a real transformation in school dinners, moving towards school menus that are healthier, safer, more sustainable and more just.
Clear objectives: health, sustainability and education
The MEMSS programme offers advice, training and support to schools that want to improve their school dinner service. It promotes the use of fresh, local, seasonal and organic ingredients, a reduction in the consumption of ultra-processed foods and greater prominence of plant-based protein on school menus. This change is also integrated into an educational project in the school, involving the management teams, catering and lunch time supervision companies, teachers and families.
Information session for schools
Schools that would like to find out more about the programme can attend the online information session scheduled for 13 May from 10.00 am to 11.00 am. Registration is now open to take part in the session, using this form.
More than 50 schools have now taken the step
Since the start of the 202-2021 school year, the programme has helped more than fifty schools in Barcelona to move towards a healthier, more sustainable school dinner model. This year, the MEMSS is looking to extend the network of schools committed to improving school meals and combating food waste and the climate emergency.
How to register
The application to take part in the programme should be completed through the Barcelona Education Consortium’s Unified Call for Programmes (CUP), between 28 April and 20 May 2025.
