Rediscover how to cook with forgotten plants in the showcooking session at the latest Markets’ Market Fair
The 12th edition of the fair will be held in Plaça de Catalunya from 20 to 22 October

Gastronomy is a cultural expression that is adapted, evolves and sometimes forgets its roots. That’s why this year, during the Markets’ Market Fair that will be taking place in Plaça de Catalunya from 20 to 22 October, the Responsible Consumption Space is proposing reviving ancestral culinary traditions with a unique showcooking event: ‘Cooking with Forgotten Plants’. This cooking demonstration seeks to revive authentic flavours and show how wild plants and traditional crop varieties can feature in our cuisine.
The activity, which will be run by the Eixarcolant Collective, is scheduled for Saturday 21 October from 12.30 to 1.15 pm.
An opportunity to rediscover forgotten ingredients
Throughout this experience, the public will not only have the chance to see how dishes are prepared live but also to interact, ask questions and even sample the delicious results. It’s more than just a demonstration, it’s an opportunity to learn, share and savour.
And it’s also a way to support sustainable farming and responsible consumption practices by connecting with our gastronomic roots, appreciating the Earth’s bounty and reaffirming our commitment to a more sustainable future.
The Barcelona markets’ festival
The 12th edition of the Markets’ Market Fair, the big celebration of Barcelona’s markets and local, sustainable products and cuisine, is being held in Plaça de Catalunya for the first time. Over the three days of the fair, the square will fill with the best products purveyed by Barcelona’s market traders, alongside local restaurateurs and producers.
Participants will be able to enjoy workshops, music and activities related to markets and food. Workshops, tastings, showcooking sessions by renowned chefs and presentations will be held in the Classroom. Children will have a chance to enjoy all sorts of games and activities in the Children’s Space. Besides that, the three days will be spiced up by music performances for the whole family.
Just as in previous editions, the Markets’ Market will also have an area with microwaves and grills so participants can heat up, cook and eat meat, fish and vegetables on the spot. And in the restaurant area, there will be a chance to savour delicious tapas made by local restaurateurs paired with wine, sparkling wine, beer and other beverages served at the different bars.
What is the Responsible Consumption Space?
This municipal facility aims to spread a more conscious, committed culture of consumption which has positive effects on people and the environment.
To achieve this, throughout the year it schedules activities for everyone with organisations and others working on and for responsible consumption, either at its centre at the Palau Foronda (Ronda de Sant Pau 43-45), which it shares with the Municipal Consumer Information Office (OMIC), or throughout the city at festivals and fairs like the Markets’ Market.
