Eight years of agroecological transition in Collserola
The programme ‘Alimentem Collserola’ is now entering a new cycle with a pact between municipalities, including Barcelona, which are renewing their commitment to continue transforming the food and agricultural model of the Serra de Collserola.

With the title “Alimentem Collserola. Transició agroecològica a la Serra de Collserola. Memòria 2016-2024 [Let’s Feed Collserola. Agroecological transition in the Serra de Collserola. 2016-2024 Activity Report] “, the Consortium of the Natural Park presents a detailed picture of the state of the local agricultural sector. The aim is to take stock of the eight years of collaborative work between administrations, entities and farmers, and to shape the future of a unique, active and, at the same time, vulnerable agricultural environment.
The report offers detailed information on the ecological, economic, and social dimensions of the sector, and includes the voices of farmers who outline the main challenges they face: access to land, water shortages, damage caused by wild animals and bureaucratic obstacles.
More farms and greater diversification
The most important data in the report include those on the 24 agricultural and livestock farms currently operating in the Natural Park, with 58 workers and a total of 35 different productive activities. Half of them have organic certification and 90% make use of local varieties and native breeds. It also mentions the 442 actions subsidised through three editions of the Collserola Agricultural Contract, with an investment of more than €230,000.
On the other hand, the report highlights the consolidation of structural services such as the advisory programme Arrela’t, shared machinery and the Agricultural Contract itself. Initiatives of cultural and educational value have also been promoted, such as the recovery of the Mandó de Collserola tomato and school projects linked to agroecology.
A pact for the future with the involvement of the city
The publication coincides with the start of the third cycle of the programme (2025-2028) and the promotion of the Agroecology Pact in Collserola, an agreement that renews the commitments of the public administrations involved.
Barcelona, as one of the signatories of the pact, reaffirms its support for a local agricultural model based on sustainability and collaboration. This commitment is enshrined in the city strategy to strengthen local food systems and to preserve agroforestry spaces that are vital for biodiversity and metropolitan resilience.
