The Barcelona Retail Prize is now in its 26th year, with revamped categories but the same objective as always: to award and highlight the city’s retail businesses. Open for nominations until 30 June 2025.

The Barcelona Retail Prize, promoted by Barcelona City Council through the Directorate of Commerce, Restoration and Food Services, is one of the leading annual events in the sector. Each year, it aims to showcase retail businesses that actively contribute to making Barcelona more dynamic, inclusive, diverse and committed to its environment.

Revamped award categories

This year, the Retail Prize has updated its categories to better suit the current reality and challenges facing the sector. The prize will now evaluate factors such as generational handover and business continuity, capacity for innovation and digital transformation, commitment to sustainability and inclusion, resilience in the face of adversity, support for collective projects, and the promotion of social and cultural values through local commerce. Specifically, (click here for details), the categories are: 

  • Handover + Award. Aimed at businesses that have been handed over or transferred to a new generation, while still maintaining their essence while and adapting to new commercial challenges. 
  • Shopping Excellence Award. Aimed at retail businesses that offer an innovative, distinct and high-quality shopping experience, through personalised assistance, well-designed premises, innovative services and the use multiple channels (multichannel).
  • Award for retail brands or groups that make the city more dynamic. Aimed at grouped brands or businesses that contribute to making the city more commercially, economically and socially dynamic, creating jobs, working with the local territory and generating progress leaders.
  • Barcelona DNA Award. Prize for businesses founded in Barcelona that have grown and expanded internationally, exporting the city’s essence and boosting its image as a capital of enterprise and innovation.
  • Albert González Award for contributions to the promotion, innovation and knowledge of the city’s commerce. An award presented to a person in the sector (professional, entrepreneur or employee) who has contributed significantly to the promotion, innovation and knowledge of Barcelona’s commerce throughout their career.
  • Barcelona – Jordi Maymó Markets Award, with two subcategories: 
    1. Award for the best individual initiative: for municipal market businesses with a unique, innovative and high-quality commercial project.
    2. Award for the best collective initiative: for associations of vendors’ that help make markets more dynamic. 

Submitting a nomination is very simple: just go to the Retail Prize website, read the terms and conditions and fill in the online participation form before 30 June 2025.
