Where to buy sustainable food

Note for screen reader users. This gallery shows two elements simultaneously, which can be images or videos. Use the controls to show the previous or the next element.

Where does the food you eat come from? Is it locally sourced? Organic? Everything you eat influences the food-chain system.

By buying local, organic food, you look after farmers, help to avoid waste and the climate emergency, while also caring for your health and the planet.

In Barcelona, there are a lot of places selling local, organic produce, which have a positive effect on the region, where you can fill your shopping basket sustainably. Why not ask where these sales points are?

  • Shopping at the market means building relationships in your community. What is more, Barcelona’s markets are the backbone of our neighbourhoods’ economies.

    • Barcelona's Municipal Markets
    • Barcelona’s Farmer's Markets
    • Ecological- and/or local-product fairs and markets
    • Catalonia’s Weekly Markets
  • This is an option that strengthens local production and distribution and creates stable jobs, security, quality and social cohesion. Look at the food shops available in your neighbourhood and buy from the establishments affiliated with the traders’ association of your street, neighbourhood or district.

  • To eat organic food is to benefit the environment, guarantee that future generations can enjoy healthy, safe food, and ensure that your meals are more nutritious and healthy.

  • Consumer cooperatives are created to provide their members with the food they need day to day, which should be local, organic and sustainable. Their aim is to offer affordable prices to consumers and fair prices to their suppliers, all within a framework of fair, decent social and labour relations.
