Ada Parellada

Chef, communicator and activist

Creu de Sant Jordi [St George’s Cross] 2016

A member of the family running Fonda Europa de Granollers, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year. In 1993, at the age of 25, she opened Semproniana, a restaurant in the centre of Eixample. The restaurant business takes central place in her work, complemented with numerous professional activities. She collaborates with various media outlets, conveying the need for households to regain home cooking habits. She also gives workshops and talks to families. She has written some twenty educational cookbooks.

She is an activist in the fight against food waste and for sustainable food.
For a couple of years she was even an online food coach for workers at a website-owning company. Staff at this company were doing very sedentary work so good food was essential.
She is currently very involved in the fight against food waste, hence her collaboration in several prevention and awareness-raising campaigns on this theme.

This year, despite the pandemic, she launched an exhibition entitled “Què mengem avui?” [What are we eating today?] at the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Granollers which reflects on how we eat and how we humans complicate matters when it comes to choosing what diet to follow.

All that and two children already past adolescence take up all her work and personal-life time.
